I had such a great sit-down with Karen Ballou at Symphony Studios. Karen Ballou is the CEO/Founder of Immunocologie Skincare. Karen has a long history in the beauty industry, as a formulator, a chemist, and an entrepreneur.
For her, skincare is not just the icing on the cake. It’s really about a healthy insight. Everything we put on our skin, the largest organ in our body, goes through our liver. Karen formulates her products to detoxify, and this fits perfectly with my health pillar.
The authenticity she exudes is remarkable. 15 years ago, she battled cancer and as a survivor has tossed all her passion, her experience, and knowledge into her beauty product line, Immunocologie Skincare.
Why call it Immunocologie?
Karen believes that most people put on skin products for beautification. Few people, however, take the time to look at the ingredients or possible toxins they may be putting on their skin. It’s easy to forget that our skin absorbs everything we rub on. Her aim is an indefinable bold statement and Immunocologie isn’t just a fluffy word, it encompasses her entire mission and passion.
The journey to Immunocologie started 15 years ago. She told me that it was initially a research project she was working on with a botanist and a chemist. She started Immunocologie as a skincare line eight years ago when she was in remission. Her prime inspiration is the idea that what we’re putting on our skin may impact our overall health.
Healthy skin for a healthy you.
What we really should focus on is detoxing our body and the liver because our liver is everything.
What does this mean to skincare?
- Some products that we put on our skin can be safe.
- Some products can be toxic.
Immunocologie hopes to offer products that are safer, and better for our skin than the products we may currently use. Her entire approach adds a different dimension than just adding another wrinkle cream to the shelves – it’s a skincare line with a purpose.
How do we age gracefully when living an ageless life?
One of Karen’s green products, green clay offers anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and curative benefits. We don’t use the phrase “anti-aging” here at Ajles Life because it’s counterproductive. The goal for Immunocologie is promoting skin health, rather than attempting to reverse age. Karen’s work has led her to the conclusion that some of the products we’re accustomed to using daily can ultimately lead to negative outcomes.
What I love about her philosophy is she doesn’t attempt to run from age. Her products don’t worship youth. Instead, her philosophy embraces our bodies and encourages us to stay healthy and vital via our skin. Skin is the largest organ in our entire body by volume. So, taking care of our heart, our skin, and our liver are all avenues to optimize our health when living an ageless life. Optimizing our health is how we age gracefully.
Hydrating our bodies is another aspect to a healthy ageless life.
In addition to skincare, something really important that Karen brought up is how she wakes up every morning, works out, and hydrates. Sleep can be incredibly dehydrating and so she shared her secret – a cup of warm water with lemon. Hydration is something we always want to think about, and implement into our daily routine for a healthy, ageless life.
Chatting with Karen Ballou was wonderful and I absolutely loved her passion and her philosophy to ageless life. A special thanks for her gift bags, and for allowing us to use Symphony Studios.
