Skin Care: Not The Icing on the Cake

We all know the slogans about beauty being skin deep and all those fun anecdotes, but it actually is, skincare is not simply the icing on the cake. One of our largest organs is the skin, and skin is more important than surface level. We take so many preventative measures for other aspects of healthcare, and it’s finally time we realize that we need to take care of our skin too.

We need to focus on life optimization through the skin.

Karen Ballou is the founder of Immunocologie skincare. I have had the chance to try many of the products that she offers. One of these products is clay water which hydrates and moisturizes the skin. Clay possesses anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties.  Karen, a cancer survivor, speaks to its potency it’s “Not only curative, but it optimizes life.” Although Karen does not use the word aging and instead says ‘life optimization’ is what we need to focus on. We’re all going to age.

We, as women, have been sold a lot of products. The scary thing is, we don’t know what’s in our products. That’s something women are talking about now. What are we putting on our skin? Everything we put on our skin, the largest organ in our body, goes through our liver. Karen formulates her products to detoxify, and this fits perfectly with my health pillar.

Let’s detox our gut and our bodies, not put more harmful things inside.

Taking care of our skin is not worshiping youth. I want to clarify that we’re not running from something. We’re not worshiping or chasing youth; we are nourishing our skin because it’s the largest organ in our entire body, bigger than our heart and liver. Skin is our mechanism for overall health. That’s why it is vital that we educate ourselves on what is in our products, consult the experts, and be mindful of what products we put on our skin. Remember, it’s all interconnected. Beauty is not skin deep, and neither is our health!

Start with basics when you buy your skin products.

If you look at the label, are there a million ingredients hard to pronounce? Next! Remember, less is more. Stick with ingredients you recognize. Is self-care buying another wrinkle cream, or is it having a coffee date with your girlfriend? Just like the skin is connected to your liver, so is your happiness connected to your actions.

Remember, it is all about the six pillars of health here at Ajles and interconnected balance.
