Defending, Leading and Redefining. How to Lead Agelessly

This is your life. Your only life. And you are in charge of it.
You hold the cards.
You lead the pack.

We can accomplish so much in our remarkable ageless lives. Throughout the world, there are so many extraordinary influential female leaders leading the way for others. They’re all unique and have different yet equally as inspiring approaches to harnessing their power.

You have the power to be a leader too.

Being a woman in leadership is as uniquely indefinable as you are. How you approach leading and defending your staff are only a couple of responsibilities you may have as a female in a position of power.

How do you lead in this world?
What is your philosophy of leadership? What does it look like for you?

I sat down with Irene Patterson, the executive force in charge of the Hughston Clinic Southwest, to get her perspective on redefining what leading means in an ageless life. I know Irene because that’s the same clinic where I do my private practice. I could call Irene some familiar terms used to refer to women leaders like, “Girl Boss,” or “Boss Babe.” And sure, that is one way to define a strong female leader.

Girl, let’s get real.

‘Girl’ isn’t always the right or most flattering term for the whole woman that you are. So embrace a title that makes you feel vital and recognized and make your own rules. I encourage you to explore the other blogs on the portal and read the perspectives of various female leaders I am lucky enough to have in my life. These women embody what it means to be ageless and live authentically. There is so much to learn and explore to live our best lives.

Your leadership style is unique to you and your authentic assets. Irene comes at it “from a personality standpoint. Observe, analyze and then proceed.” This multi-tiered approach allows Irene to reflect and be methodical based on the feedback she processes from her peers.
What enables you to lead your whole ageless life to your fullest potential? There’s not just one route to leadership.

Leadership is adaptable. It is authentic, ageless, and indefinable. (Like you.)

Having role models is one way to find your leadership style, and those role models can be parents, peers, or mentors. If you want something, you just have to be courageous and realize you’re own strength to get it. You have to adapt to various situations you may find yourself in.

It’s also important to give yourself time to recover and indulge in self-care. Speaking of self-care, it’s a widely overused term, right? Self-care is not always a hot bath or exercise. So often, we think of it as eating well and exercising. That may be one answer, but it certainly is not the only answer, just like more than one kind of leader. What do you do to take care of yourself? For everyone, self-care looks different. It can mean wearing those red boots you love, having caramel in your latte, or going for a climb at the rock climbing gym. You get to define and decide what self-care means.
